| Building Conservation: Fire Damage |
| Fire Damaged buildings will take many months
or even years to dry out following dousing with water to put out the fire.
Damage can be caused to the building if the drying is not carried out
carefully. Too rapid drying can result in differential movement between
materials leading to for instance, cracking and spalling of masonry whereas
if left to dry out to slowly mould and timber decay may form causing further
damage. EBS has years of experience in advising owners of fire damaged buildings. Ensuring that the drying process is carefully managed to minimise damage to the building. The solution EBS will carry out a detailed inspection of the property to identify the moisture distribution, the vulnerable materials and advise on the type of drying regime to minimise damage to the building and the time scale of the drying out period. EBS staff has been involved with environmental monitoring and drying out a range buildings following fire and flood damage including Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Castle, Cullen House, Guys Hospital, Athelhampton House and The Quakers Meeting House.
